GRAND RAPIDS An army of Grand Rapids volunteers is making sure this Christmas is merry for hundreds of children in need.
Elves and More of West Michigan presented more than 1,100 bicycles to children outside Harrison Park School Saturday December 22, 2012. More than 400 volunteers pieced together the donated bicycles the week prior. Saturday, they also helped fit children with helmets.
“We believe a bike is first step towards independence. It’s a way for the kids to get to and from school activities, and it’s a physical activity that can last a lifetime,” said organizer Liz Bracken.
This is the eighth year for the bicycle giveaway.
